At the age of eleven my uncle, who played Trombone in Haslemere Town Band, talked me into learning a brass instrument. I was already playing the Clarinet at Grade 5 level and fancied another challenge. People told me that you could not play two instruments that required different techniques, so being stubborn and a girl, I joined Haslemere Town Band. I started in the training band and after six months I was promoted to the main band where I was at the time The Back Row, where I am now one of many. For I time I did try the trombone, but kept losing the slide and then the Flugel, which I played for about 18 months. I moved away to qualify as a Nurse but I have now returned to cause havoc in the back row. |
