HTB Enjoys Contest Success

In May 1999 the Haslemere Town Band competed in two Entertainment Contests.

On 16th May 1999 the Band entered the Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association (SCABA) entertainment contest at Crawley.
The programme was:

• Punchinello
• Lil' Darlin (Cornet soloist Claire Wade)
• Ticket to Ride
• The Swan from Carnival of the Animals (Horn Soloist Bryony Dyer)
• Charter Fair from Haslemere Suite
  

The Band came 2nd out of 6. The competition was for 2nd and 3rd section bands, and for us as a 3rd section band to beat two 2nd section bands was very good.   

The Band entered the local Entertainment Contest for the Maurice Wright Challenge Cup on 22nd May 1999. The Band was competing against Liss Band, who won the competition last year, Basingstoke Silver Band and Sandhurst Silver Band.

For both Basingstoke and Sandhurst this was the first time that they have played in this competition. The pieces played were:

• Punchinello
• Waverley Waltz from Haslemere Suite
• Ticket to Ride
• Introduction and Allegro Spritoso (Euphonium Soloist Stephen Bicknell)
• Lil' Darlin (Cornet soloist Claire Wade)
• Charter Fair from Haslemere Suite
  

The Band came 1st out of 4, with Sandhurst 2nd, Liss 3rd and Basingstoke 4th.
